2021-22 TCA Scholarship Fund Online Application Open through May 1, 2021
Students with ties to TCA encouraged to complete online application beginning March 12
Alexandria, Virginia:
For nearly 50 years, the Truckload Carriers Association Scholarship Fund has been helping students with connections to the truckload industry. The Fund awards up to $6,250 per year, per full-time college students. In the 2020-21 school year, the TCA Scholarship Fund’s Board of Trustees awarded more than 50 students totaling to more than $150,000.
Much of the program’s support comes from within the truckload family—companies and individuals who are committed to our community’s future.
The 2021-22 TCA Scholarship Fund online application will open on Friday, March 12, and will be accessible through the TCA website.
Any student in good standing (minimum grade point average of 3.0) who will be attending an accredited, four-year college or university as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior and who is either the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or is an employee of a TCA member company or is the child, grandchild, or spouse of an independent contractor or an independent contractor affiliated with a TCA member company is encouraged to apply.
“The TCA scholarship has taken a significant weight off of my shoulders,” shared Darrel Clark Wilson III Scholarship recipient Benjamin Giesbrecht. “I was laid off for a long period of time during summer, which meant that I didn’t have the usual funds to pay for my schooling.” Giesbrecht, who has ties to Bison Transport based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, received $3,250. “I am forever grateful for the support from both Bison Transport and TCA that has helped me continue and finish my education.”
Rae Ballinger, the Robert Low Scholarship recipient, who currently works in the accounting department for H.O. Wolding, Inc. based in Amherst, Wisconsin, echoes the same sentiments: “The TCA scholarship has greatly alleviated financial stress that college expenses cause and I have been able to focus more on my schooling and extracurriculars rather than the need to work during college,” she shared with TCA. “I am extremely thankful for the trucking industry as well as TCA. Thank you!”
Kai Norris Scholarship recipient Aubree Boyd agrees. “The TCA scholarship has helped me out tremendously in paying for my college tuition these past two semesters as I was fortunate enough to not have to take out any student loans,” she said. “I am grateful to have received a scholarship from such a helpful organization that is dedicated to helping college students succeed.” Boyd, who is majoring in supply chain management, received $3,250. She has ties to Daseke, Inc. – Boyd Bros. Transportation, Inc., based in Clayton, Alabama.
National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT) Scholarship recipient, Graham Baner, who has ties to Nussbaum Transportation Services, Inc. based in Hudson, Illinois concurs. “The TCA scholarship was a massive assistance for me. I was lucky to receive this gift and it has been an incredible load off of my shoulders,” he shared. “I would recommend anyone who is eligible for it, and has a passion for the pursuit of knowledge, to apply.” Baner received $6,250 and is studying supply chain management.
Elizabeth Wilhelm, an agriculture education major, also shared with TCA that she is now “able to attend college and focus on my primary goal, learning. I have nothing but gratitude and respect for the organization.” Wilhelm has ties to the trucking industry through Hirschbach Motor Lines based in Dubuque, Iowa. She received the Stoney Reese Stubbs Scholarship totaling $3,250.
“College can be stressful enough, disregarding student loan debt,” shared Austin Wagner, TCA’s John Kaburick Scholarship recipient. “When you add that into the equation, students bear a heavy burden. Receiving a TCA scholarship this year has helped me to be at ease and allowed me to focus more intently on my schoolwork.” Wagner, who received $4,500, has ties to McLeod Software Corporation, Inc. based in Birmingham, Alabama, is studying marketing/entrepreneurial studies.
