General Description:

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is searching for a Manager of Government Affairs. This position is responsible for tracking and interpreting regulations and legislation for TCA’s leadership and membership.

The incumbent is expected to adhere to company policy and procedures and promote and foster a team-based work environment.

The individual will demonstrate:

They must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a positive and professional disposition. This is an on-site position at TCA Headquarters in Alexandria, VA. Some travel will be required.

Primary Responsibilities:

Legislative

  • Develop and assist in maintaining relationships with fellow associations and Capitol Hill staff by participating in meetings and attending industry events.
  • Monitor Capitol Hill activity through participation in hearings, tracking relevant bills, and reading daily press.
  • Research issues concerning the truckload segment of the trucking industry.

Regulatory

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret regulations and announcements appearing in the Federal Register.
  • Review rulemaking proceedings and communicate developments in a timely fashion.
  • Support the development of comments to submit to rulemaking proceedings.

Safety & Security Division

  • Support communications with the safety personnel of TCA members.
  • Assist in developing the program for the division’s annual meeting.
  • Support the administration of various TCA award programs.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support as needed at the division’s annual meeting.

Other

  • Support the association’s committees including, but not limited to, Highway Policy, Independent Contractor Practices Policy, and Regulatory Policy, as well as the association’s Safety & Security Division and Call-on-Washington Program.
  • Provide administrative and logistical support as needed at TCA’s Annual Convention.
  • Develop safety and policy related content for distribution to TCA’s membership, posting on social media, and publication by industry press.
  • Ensure that government affairs content on TCA’s website is up to date.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BA/BS degree in a related field.
  • 2-4 years of work experience.
  • Working knowledge of the legislative and regulatory process.
  • Proficient in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Mature, goal-oriented, resourceful self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision; strong organizational, time management, analytical, written and verbal communication, and priority-setting skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Capitol Hill or trade association experience
  • Ability to connect & communicate through various channels
  • Experience using association management software

Job Type: Full-time

This position reports to the Vice President of Government Affairs and is an onsite position located in Alexandria, Virginia.

Salary is commensurate with experience including an excellent benefits package.
