Outreach
TCA Outreach cultivates programs that both serve our communities and honor those in truckload who are making a difference. Below you will find a listing of TCA’s numerous Contests & Awards as well as TCA’s various Image Programs.
Contests & Awards
The annual Driver of the Year Contests identify and honor the best men and women traveling the roads today. They drive safely, give to their communities, protect the environment, and enhance the image of trucking — in other words, they make us all proud to be a part of this great industry. The best company equipment drivers and owner operators are honored every year at TCA’s Annual Convention. Winners have exceptional safe driving records, enhance the image of trucking, serve their communities, and protect our environment.
Since 1973, TCA has been helping students associated with the truckload industry reach their dreams. The TCA Scholarship Fund awards up to $6,250 per year to college junior and seniors. Much of our program’s support comes from within the truckload family—companies and individuals who are committed to our community’s future.
Each year, TCA’s Fleet Safety Awards recognize the safest carriers in the truckload industry based on their company’s overall organization, employee driver/independent contractor selection procedures, training, supervision, accident investigation, inspection, equipment maintenance, outside activities, and general highway safety. Carriers placing first, second, and third in each of six mileage-based divisions are honored. Division winners are subject to an audit for ratio accuracy and invited to compete for one of two grand prizes announced each March at TCA’s Annual Convention.
The TCA Safety Professional of the Year – Clare C. Casey Award recognizes a person whose actions and achievements have had a profound and positive benefit or contribution to better safety on our highways. This individual exemplifies leadership and demonstrates the goals of protecting lives and property in the motor transportation industry while serving their company, industry and the motoring public. Nomination period opens in early April.
The Past Chairmen’s Award is the highest honor given by the Truckload Carriers Association. Every year, TCA’s past chairmen present the award to a recognized industry leader who has made a significant contribution to the truckload industry, and is recognized as a successful business person and association leader. Contrary to the title of the award, the awardee does NOT have to be a past chairman of the association. Winners can be individuals outside the trucking industry as long as they have made a significant contribution to the truckload industry.
Each year, TCA in partnership with CarriersEdge, recognizes for-hire carriers for providing the best work environments for their drivers in the industry-renowned Best Fleets to Drive For contest. Nominated companies are evaluated on their performance in areas such as driver compensation, pension, and benefits; professional development; driver and community support; and safety record. The winning companies are recognized at TCA’s Annual Convention.
Image Programs
Since its inception in August 1997, TCA’s Highway Angel program has recognized hundreds of professional truck drivers for the exemplary courtesy and courage they have shown others while on the job. Their good deeds range from simple acts of kindness, such as fixing a flat tire, to heroic life-saving efforts, such as pulling someone from a burning vehicle and administering CPR. Genuinely selfless in their actions, Highway Angels are typically nominated by their employers, fellow professional truck drivers, or the motorists they’ve assisted out on the road.

For more than 50 years, a Christmas tree has graced the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol for the holiday season. The Willamette National Forest in partnership with nonprofit Choose Outdoors, will bring this special gift from Springfield, Oregon to Washington, D.C. for the 2018 season, involving more than 25 communities along the way. TCA has proudly sponsored the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree since 2012.
Through TCA’s Truckload of Respect program, there are several ways you can help support Wreaths Across America. Since 2013, the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has organized and hosted an annual gala to support Wreaths Across America (WAA), a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring and thanking United States veterans for their service and sacrifice. Contact the Wreaths Across America team if you are interested in hauling a truckload of wreaths.
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) and the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund (VVMF) have partnered to bring The Wall That Heals to communities across America. A 250-foot replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, The Wall That Heals honors the nearly eight million Americans who served in the U.S. Armed Forces during the Vietnam War, bearing the names of the more than 58,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam. TCA member companies and professional truck drivers drive the trailer hauling the exhibit, including The Wall replica and an accompanying mobile education center.
