Bison Transport Driver Saves Injured Motorist from Engulfed Vehicle

11/30/2017

Alexandria, Virginia:
Darrin Gillmore of St. Thomas, Ontario, a professional truck driver with Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Manitoba, has been named a Highway Angel by the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA). He is being recognized for extinguishing a crashed vehicle thus saving a man’s life.
On the morning of October 10, 2017, Mr. Gillmore had just finished his working day and was headed back to the yard when he came across a head-on collision where there was a burning passenger vehicle. He quickly stopped and grabbed his truck’s fire extinguisher and was able to stop the fire from spreading. Mr. Gillmore then turned his attention to the injured motorist and pulled him out of the truck and to a safe area.
The motorist he pulled from the truck had serious injuries — a broken leg and ankle. Mr. Gillmore stayed on the scene for more than two hours to wait for paramedics to arrive. He provided valuable assistance and information regarding the collision to law enforcement. Mr. Gillmore went above and beyond as a professional truck driver and put his own life in danger to save someone else’s. If he had not acted quickly, the outcome could have been much worse.
For his willingness to assist his fellow driver, TCA has presented Mr. Gillmore with a certificate, patch, lapel pin, and truck decals. Bison Transport also received a certificate acknowledging their driver as a Highway Angel.
EpicVue sponsors TCA’s Highway Angel program. Since the program’s inception in August 1997, hundreds of drivers have been recognized as Highway Angels for the exemplary kindness, courtesy, and courage they have displayed while on the job.
