2018 award recipient has advanced truck driver training, proficiency, safety, and professionalism

Kissimmee, Florida:

The Professional Truck Driver Institute, Inc. (PTDI) has presented its highest honor, the Lee J. Crittenden Memorial Award, to Jeff Davis, Vice President of Safety for Napa River Insurance Services, Inc. The award ceremony took place during the 80th Annual Convention of the Truckload Carriers Association (TCA), the organization that managed PTDI until 2016. The award is sponsored by Cengage Learning of New York, New York.

Davis has more than 30 years of experience in commercial trucking safety. As Vice President of Safety, he oversees all safety and loss prevention activities with prospective and insured clients. His role includes managing the pre-underwriting due diligence process, providing insured client safety and compliance services, as well as analyzing loss and compliance data. Davis is active in numerous state and national trucking industry groups. He serves on the Board of Directors and is the Treasurer of the Professional Truck Driver Institute and is also a member of the Truckload Carriers Association Regulatory Policy Committee.

Peter Van Dyne, technical director at Liberty Mutual Insurance and chair of PTDI’s Board of Directors, said of Davis as he presented him the award, “As an organization committed to actively supporting the training and development of truck drivers, PTDI is grateful to have someone like Jeff, who’s passion is his commitment to bring good drivers into the business and keep them, which more than exemplifies the overall mission of PTDI.”

The Crittenden Award is named after Lee Crittenden, a staunch supporter of PTDI until his death in April 1998. Crittenden was passionate about promoting a positive image of the nation’s professional truck drivers—he was largely responsible for the creation of America’s Road Team and initiated a scholarship program for drivers who participate in the National Truck Driving Championships. He was one of PTDI’s founders, serving on the board of directors as finance chairman during the PTDI’s infancy.

PTDI currently has certified entry-level training courses at 57 schools in 19 states, Canada, and Germany.
