TCA Convention Attendees Raise Nearly $175,000 for Scholarship Fund

Hot Havana Nights, the Fund’s fifth annual fundraising gala, featured tropical attire, a silent auction, and a moving speech by a scholarship recipient

Kissimmee, Florida:

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) Scholarship Fund hosted its fifth annual fundraising gala on Monday evening. 80th Annual Convention in Kissimmee, Florida “Hot Havana Nights” the fifth annual Scholarship Fund Gala, which raised $173,075 to fund future scholarships named after past TCA chairmen and support trucking families’ dreams of a higher education. Thanks to the generosity of hosts Freightliner Trucks and Pilot Flying J, 100% of the evening’s proceeds went directly to the Scholarship Fund. Before the night began, the Scholarship Fund had already raised $77,725 from seat and table sales alone.

Gala attendees danced the night away to the sizzling hits of Gloria Estefan, played by the 12-piece band, Gloria’s Miami Sound. The gala also featured a speech from four-year TCA scholarship recipient Dylan Tungate, who thanked the attendees for supporting the Scholarship Fund that played an important part in allowing him to graduate college debt free.

When attendees weren’t on their feet dancing or taking pictures at the photo booth, they were bidding on silent and live auction items, including two humidors, jewelry, and trips. All total, the silent and live auctions raised $51,025.

The gala also saw the endowment of a new Past Chairmen’s Fund scholarship. Thanks to $20,000 in donations, the Robert Low Scholarship, named after 2012-13 TCA Chairman and President and Founder of Prime Inc. Robert Low, will now be awarded each year in perpetuity.

The 2018-19 TCA Scholarship Fund application process will begin April 2017.
