TCA Members Descend on Capitol Hill for Inaugural Call on Washington

10/11/2017

Washington, DC:
The Voice of Truckload was heard loud and clear as the Association held its Inaugural Call on Washington event on Wednesday, October 10. Thirty-two members from across the country descended on Capitol Hill to discuss issues of importance to the truckload industry.
The day began with an education session, where members were briefed on the state of the 115th Congress and TCA’s policy positions. Armed with their industry know-how and passion, as well as new strategies gained from the briefing, TCA members arrived on Capitol Hill prepared to promote the truckload industry and ask the tough questions that needed to be asked of legislators and their staff.
Once TCA members arrived on Capitol Hill, they held meetings with 43 Congressional offices. Several members were able to have one-on-one conversations with their Representatives, while other meetings were held with Congressional staffers in helping to educate them on truckload issues. Members and staff also met with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration at the Department of Transportation headquarters building. This was a very productive discussion, and aided in the Association’s continued relationship building efforts with the agency.
TCA members from Canada had the opportunity to visit the Canadian Embassy for in-depth conversations with Transport Canada staff. The meeting was TCA’s first with this office. Given the numerous encouraging outcomes that occurred, it is evident that there will be opportunities for further ventures between the two parties to take place.
TCA would like to thank all of the members who attended, and helped to make this event such a success. The 2nd Annual Call on Washington will be held on September 25, 2018. We need to see you there! If you are interested, or have any questions on how to become more involved with government affairs, please contact TCA’s Manager of Government Affairs, Crystal Gitchell.

Testimonials:

“TCA’s first fly in was a great success. The needs of truckload carriers were directly addressed for the first time on Capitol Hill. I think this is only the first step in our organization working to shift the needle to help our industry.”
– John Elliott, Load One
“I’ve been working with suppliers in the industry for 25 years and this is the first time I’ve done a Call on Washington. If you have an inkling of interest in our industry and want to really understand what matters to carriers then you should participate in this. I’ll participate every year now!”
