TCA Scholarship Fund Application Process to Open

04/13/2019

Alexandria, Virginia:

Since 1973, the Truckload Carriers Association Scholarship Fund has been helping students with connections to the truckload industry. The Fund awards up to $6,250 per year, per full-time college student. Much of the program’s support comes from within the truckload family—companies and individuals who are committed to our community’s future.

The TCA Scholarship Fund application will open May 1, and will be accessible on the TCA website.

Any student in good standing (minimum grade point average of 3.0) who will be attending an accredited, four-year college or university as a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior and who is either the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or an employee of a TCA member or is the child, grandchild, or spouse of an independent contractor or an independent contractor affiliated with a TCA member is encouraged to apply.

In the 2018-19 school year, the TCA Scholarship Fund’s Board of Trustees awarded more than 50 students totaling to more than $150,000.

“I could not be more grateful for the opportunities the TCA has provided me through their scholarships,” says Blake Quinn, the 2018-19 recipient of the National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT) Scholarship. “Because of the TCA, I’ve been to put a lot more focus into my degree; I can’t begin to explain how much that has paid off.” Quinn, whose father works for Prime Inc. based in Springfield, Missouri received $6,250.

Hannah Linville, the 2018-19 recipient of the John Kaburick Past Chairmen’s Fund Scholarship, agrees.

“Receiving the TCA Scholarship the past three years has greatly alleviated financial stress from my family and allowed me to finish my undergraduate degree at Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business.”  Linville, whose father works for Wabash National Corporation based in Lafayette, Indiana received $4,500.  “After personally experiencing the benefits of this prestigious award, I am excited to see the lives the TCA Scholarship touches in the coming years,” she shared.

“The scholarship money I received from the TCA helped pay for my first year at Indiana University to the point where I have not had to take out a student loan yet,” said Andrea Vidaurre, the 2018-19 recipient of the Robert Low Past Chairmen’s Fund Scholarship. Vidaurre, whose mother is employed by WEX EFS based in Nashville, Tennessee, received $3,250. “I have been able to work fewer part-time hours while being a full-time student so I can focus on my education,” she added.

Blake Woods, the 2018-19 recipient of the Kai Norris Past Chairmen’s Fund Scholarship echoes the same sentiments. “I was extremely excited when I found out that I was chosen to receive a TCA scholarship [as] this helped me to pay for my tuition and made it so that I did not have to take out a loan to pay for my school.” Woods, who is employed by Wilson Logistics based in Springfield, Missouri, received $3,250.
