Truckload Carriers Association’s Past Chairmen’s Award Presented to Barry Pottle

Las Vegas:

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has bestowed its prestigious Past Chairmen’s Award upon Barry Pottle, president of Pottle’s Transportation, Inc. of Hermon, Maine. He was recognized during Monday’s general session at TCA’s 81st Annual Convention in Las Vegas.

Pottle purchased Pottle’s Transportation from his father and founder Clifton Pottle in 1988 after working for the truckload motor carrier for five years. He guided its growth from an 11-truck fleet to its current size of more than 180 trucks and 575 trailers with terminals in Bangor and Fairfield, Maine as well as Allentown, Pennsylvania.

Pottle is also an owner and/or co-owner of five other companies, all of which involve the transportation industry, including a Volvo-Mack Dealership and a warehousing business.

In addition to being a TCA Past Chairman in 2006-07, Pottle is currently the Chairman of the American Trucking Associations and previously served as chairman of the Truck PAC as well as Maine Motor Transport Association and Maine Truck PAC.

Additionally, Pottle is a Past Chairman of The Pine Tree Chapter of American Red Cross, a supporter of the Hermon Schools, Camp Jordan, Anah Temple Shrine, Cancer Care of Maine and Wreaths Across America.

“When I started trucking in 1978, I never thought I’d be where I am today being able to serve as chairman of the Maine Motor Transport Association, the Truckload Carriers Association now the American Trucking Associations,” shares Pottle. “The Past Chairman’s Award is one of the biggest highlights of my career because my peers are who chose me.”

Pottle credits three gentlemen who had a big influence on his life as he progressed through the chairs of TCA and ATA. “Mac McCormick who passed away in a plane crash in October of 2006, as well as Bob Baylor and Tom Kretsinger,” said Pottle. “They all had a big role in me becoming chairman. All three of those gentlemen have received this award. Just to be in a league with these gentlemen has meant so much to me. Two others are Clifton Parker and Don Freymiller. For a young guy starting his career in trucking working his way up through and having his peers you work with and are friends with to pick you for such an award is a great honor. I’m very blessed.”

The Past Chairmen’s award is TCA’s highest honor. Recipients are leaders who have made a significant contribution to the business community, the trucking industry, and the organization. Contrary to the title of the award, the awardee does not have to be a past chairman of the association.
