Truckload Carriers Association’s Past Chairmen’s Award Presented to Clifton Parker
Kissimmee, Florida:
The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) has bestowed its prestigious Past Chairmen’s Award upon Clifton Parker, president and general manager of G&P Trucking Co., Inc., and TCA Chairman from 2002-04—one of the only TCA Chairmen to serve two terms. He was recognized at the Sunday morning general session at TCA’s 80th Annual Convention in Kissimmee, Florida.
Parker was born in 1955 to a trucking family. His father was a driver for Carolina Freight Carriers of Cherryville, North Carolina. After receiving his B.A. from the University of North Carolina-Charlotte in 1977, he went to work for Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation, where he managed several terminals and was promoted to Assistant to the Vice President. Shortly thereafter, he served as Vice President of Operations for Red Arrow Freight Lines.
During his tenure at G&P Trucking, Parker has been active in the South Carolina Trucking Associations where he served as Chairman for two years, and presently SCTA’s representative to the American Trucking Association. He also serves as Chairman of the Hours of Service Sub Committee for the American Trucking Association, and a member of the safety, environmental, technology and intermodal policy committees.
Parker has been recognized by the South Carolina House for Outstanding Leadership in the field of transportation and was appointed to a Study Committee on Public Private Partnerships in Transportation to make recommendations to the Governor for Highway funding. Governor Nikki Haley appointed him to represent the Governor’s office on the SCDOT Highway Commission in 2011, a position in which he still serves today.
The Past Chairmen’s award is TCA’s highest honor. Recipients are leaders who have made a significant contribution to the business community, the trucking industry, and the organization. Contrary to the title of the award, the awardee does not have to be a past chairman of the association.
