Alexandria, Virginia:

The Truckload Carriers Association (TCA) is pleased to announce that its annual Company Equipment Driver of the Year contest will be enhanced this year by the addition of a spectacular new prize for the first-place winner: a Dodge Ram truck powered with a Cummins engine.

“Thanks to the generosity of Cummins Engine Co., Fenway Partners, Cline Wood Agency, Inc., Transportation Coverage Specialists, Inc., Joe Morton and Sons and the Daly Agency, Inc., we are now able to provide the winner of our Company Equipment contest with a highly desirable and prestigious grand prize that will serve as a visible reminder of the winner’s excellence every time it is driven out on the road,” said Ray Haight, TCA’s chairman and executive director of MacKinnon Transport, Inc., Guelph, Ontario, Canada.

TCA launched its 2008 contest on Aug. 21, 2008, and is currently in the process of accepting nominations. Motor carriers are encouraged to nominate up to five of their eligible company drivers before the first application deadline of Sept. 12, 2008. If a driver makes it to finalist status, the company will need to fill out a more detailed final application that includes letters of reference, a short essay from the driver, lists of community and trucking industry involvement, etc. The final application will be due Oct. 31, 2008.

To be considered for the company equipment contest, drivers must have been employed by and driving for the nominating motor carrier for at least three years. Applicants must have at least one million consecutive, accident-free miles and will be judged on performance record, ability to operate in a safe manner on the public highways, efforts to enhance the public image of the trucking industry, and positive contributions to the community.
Winners will be announced at the Annual Banquet during TCA’s Annual Convention, March 8-11, 2009, at the Gaylord Palms Resort, Orlando, Florida.
