TCA’s 2017 Fleet Safety Awards Presented to Boyle Transportation and Bison Transport
Kissimmee, Florida:
On the final evening of the Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) 80th Annual Convention, two truckload carriers with outstanding safety records were presented with the prestigious Fleet Safety Awards. Sponsored by Great West Casualty Company, the 2017 award for the small carrier division (total annual mileage of less than 25 million miles) went to Boyle Transportation of Billerica, Massachusetts, and the award for the large carrier division (total annual mileage of 25 million or more miles) went to Bison Transport of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
This is Boyle Transportation’s first ever Fleet Safety grand prize, while it is Bison Transport’s tenth Fleet Safety grand prize for the large-carrier category, including their ninth in a row. Both companies will be recognized again during TCA’s Safety & Security Division Annual Meeting, to be held June 10-12, 2018 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott in Norfolk, Virginia.
“Boyle and Bison hold their safety programs to a higher standard than simply counting accidents per mile,” said John Lyboldt, TCA’s president. “These fleets truly represent a gold standard for developing a safety culture that permeates through every employee in every aspect of the company. Congratulations to Boyle and Bison!”
The application process for the Fleet Safety Awards began with fleets submitting their accident frequency per million miles driven. TCA selected the top three winners for each of six mileage-based divisions and had the results audited for accuracy by independent experts. In January, TCA announced the names of the 18 division winners and invited them to submit further documentation about their safety programs. To receive the grand prize, both winning companies had to demonstrate stringent standards in their overall safety programs, on and off the highway, and were judged to be the best in their commitment to improving safety on North America’s highways.
