Last week, U.S. Senator Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) and U.S. Representative Randy Feenstra (R-Iowa) led more than 150 members of their party in a letter to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Michael Regan urging the Biden Administration to withdraw the EPA’s Final Rule: Greenhouse Gas Emissions Standards for Heavy-Duty Vehicles – Phase 3, which was published in the Federal Register on April 22, 2024.

TCA is proud to have been an active participant in helping garner co-sponsors for this letter. The letter refers to the Roland Berger study by the Clean Freight Coalition, of which TCA is a founding member. The study highlights the $1 trillion infrastructure investment needed to meet the needs of these new zero-emission trucks – which does not even include the cost of new trucks. Additionally, the letter emphasizes the reality of the industry, the unrealistic timelines for the transition to zero-emission trucks, and how this will impact citizens nationwide.

Despite the ongoing battle, the industry’s resilience shines through. This letter is a testament to our collective determination and ardent resolve. TCA will remain the unwavering voice of the truckload industry in the electrification timeline discussion. We firmly believe in the potential of alternative solutions, such as renewable diesel, and will continue to advocate for their exploration and implementation.
