Truckload Carriers Association Names 2018-19 Scholarship Recipients
08/07/2018
The Truckload Carriers Association’s (TCA) Scholarship Fund will be providing financial assistance to 53 undergraduate college students for the 2018-19 academic year. Each student will receive a scholarship ranging from $2,725 to $6,250, from a total pool of approximately $153,000.
The seven largest scholarships are named after dedicated members, affiliates, and past TCA chairmen. The largest scholarship—named after the National Association of Independent Truckers (NAIT) in the amount of $6,250—will be awarded to Blake Quinn of Springfield, Missouri. A junior at the University of Arkansas studying Supply Chain Management, Quinn has earned one of the top TCA Scholarships for the second year in a row, having received the Kai Norris Scholarship last year, but this will be his first time receiving the NAIT Scholarship. Quinn’s father works for Prime Inc.
“As I progress through my college career, I am made increasingly more aware of the impact the trucking industry has had (and continues to have) on my family life,” said Quinn. “As a Supply Chain major, I am gradually learning more and more about the industry my dad climbed the ladder in to provide for my family.”
This also marks the first year that the Robert Low Past Chairman’s Fund Scholarship will be awarded. Endowed at this year’s TCA Scholarship Fund gala during the 80th Annual TCA Convention, the Robert Low Scholarship, named after TCA’s 2012-13 Chairman, will be awarded to Andrea Vidaurre of Indianapolis, Indiana. A freshman at Indiana University, Vidaurre plans to study accounting or finance. Vidaurre’s mother works for WEX EFS.
“I have always respected my mother’s work ethic and learned early on to follow in her footsteps, whether it be my school work, basketball, or my own job,” said Vidaurre. “After college, I look forward to beginning my career in accounting or finance with the same passion and drive as my mother has for an industry that has played such an important part in our lives.”
TCA’s Scholarship Fund has been providing assistance to students associated with the truckload industry since 1973. Each of the winners must be a student in good standing who will be attending a four-year college or university and must be associated with a TCA member company as an employee, independent contractor, or the child, grandchild, or spouse of an employee or independent contractor of a TCA member company. The Fund awards its scholarships without regard to race, color, sex, national origin, religion, age, equal pay, disability, or genetic information.
